MUSHARAF PROVIDED GOLD OPORTUNITY ON KASHMIR: NC
Srinagar Mar 29 (Only Kashmir): Ruling National Conference Tuesday hailed General (retd) Pervez Musharaff's efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue, saying the former Pakistani president had created a "golden opportunity" which was let go.
"Musharraff's efforts had created a golden opportunity to resolve the Kashmir issue, but the chance was let go," General Secretary National Conference, Sheikh Nazir said in a statement to PBI.
This is for the first time that the ruling party has sounded in support of the formula, hailed mainly by the Hurriayat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Terming the foreign secretary level talks between India and Pakistan as a "positive" development, Nazir the representation of Kashmiris in the dialogue process was a must in order to find a solution to the issue and bring peace to the sub-continent.
Nazir said the issue cannot be kept in cold storage for long and that both the countries must find ways to resolve it at the earliest keeping in view the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.
The senior party leader maintained that Kashmir was political issue.
He said that the party believes that the restoration of internal autonomy was good solution to the problem. "However, we are ready to accept any other better solution to the issue," he added.
