ALMOST 399 KASHMIRI PANDITS KILLED SINCE 1990: SURVEY

Srinagar June 19 (Only Kashmir): A Kashmiri Pandit organisation claimed that at least 399 Pandits have been killed since the eruption of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in 1990, with 75 per cent of them killed in the first year alone.
"The first list of a survey done by us suggests that 399 Pandits were killed. Our estimate is that the total number of them killed will be around 650 in the last 20 years," Kashmir Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) President Sanjay Tickoo told reporters here.
He said the survey to find the exact number of Pandits killed was done in 2008 and 2009, which revealed that 302 members of the community were killed in 1990 alone.
KPSS' estimate is nearly double the number of Kashmiri Pandit killings acknowledged by the state government which has put the number at 219.
"Our list is still incomplete and more names are expected to be added in future," he said.
Tickoo dismissed the claims by migrant Pandit organisations that more than 3000 members of the community were killed in the last 20 years.
"We do not agree with the propaganda from outside that 3000 to 4000 Pandits were killed in Kashmir," he said.
KPSS also demanded the killings be investigated by the CBI and the culprits booked at the earliest.
"Every single case pertaining to the minority community should be handed over the CBI for investigation to bring the guilty to justice," Tickoo said.
Meanwhile, KPSS held two days of special prayers at the historic Sheetleshwar Bhairav temple here in old city where a large number of people from the minority community congregated.
A photo exhibition about the temples in the valley was also organised by the group.

JETHMALANI CALLOUS: NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Srinagar June 7, (Only Kashmir): The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference has expressed its dismay on the statement of Ram Jethmalani terming it as frivolous, irresponsible, baseless, callous and bereft of facts.
The spokesman of the party said people like Ram Jethmalani, Arundhati Roy and Gautam Navlakha at the behest of political mercenaries like Madhu Kishwar and the likes visit Kashmir to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state and then return to their comfortable homes in Delhi and Bombay to be seen occasionally on Television screens discussing Kashmir with the sole aim of stoking the violence and disturbance in the state much to the detriment of the people of the state and their welfare.
The spokesman said the government should not allow people like Ram Jethmalani to enter the state during the summers because they do not want a solution to the Kashmir issue instead they come here to misguide the people, hoodwink them and derail the process of peace in Jammu & Kashmir.
The party spokesman said Ram Jethmalani is probably out of his mind to suggest that in J&K Nazi rule is prevalent. He said a state where eighty percent of the electorate is participating in panchayat elections after nearly three decades to establish a democratic system at the grass root level can by no stretch of imagination be termed as a Nazi rule but infact should be hailed as a great leap forward in strengthening the democratic institutions in the state and bringing accountability, transparency as also improving the delivery mechanism.
The party spokesman asked Ram Jethmalani to first convince his own party the BJP to support the reduction of Troops presence in civilian areas as also to raise the demand for withdrawal of AFSPA before he convinces anybody else.
The spokesman said Omar Abdullah and his government does not need any certificate from disgruntled, frustrated and politically rejected people like Ram Jethmalani a man who has failed to even win the Supreme Court Bar Association elections. He said Omar is striving hard to win the hearts and minds of the people with his untiring efforts and so deserves full support of all right thinking people.

NON KASHMIRI POLITICAL PARTIES ARE A SERIOUS THREAT TO KASHMIRI STRUGGLE

7 June 2011, Only Kashmir
By: Dr. Shabir Choudhry

In Pakistani Administered Kashmir elections are taking place this month. These elections are no different to the elections that place on the others side of the Line of Control under the Indian Administration. Whereas, Pakistani governments, their secret agencies and their proxies oppose, tooth and nail, elections on the Indian side; they put up a good drama of elections in areas of Jammu and Kashmir under their control.
At one time, people of the Indian Administered Kashmir under influence of Pakistan and their proxies in the Valley of Kashmir took the bait and boycotted elections as if they were haram forbidden in Qur’an. They were led to believe that if they took part in elections it will be tantamount to voting for accession of the State with India, even though one UN Security Council Resolution clearly says that no election can substitute election.
Thank Almighty that people have now understood game plan of Pakistan and their proxies who urged people not to take part in the elections, as people now know elections are for administrative purposes and they do not change status of this disputed territory. Furthermore, they understood that if the elections are halal – allowed under the Pakistani Administration then they cannot be haram – forbidden under the Indian Administration.
Once the people understood that agents of Pakistan and Pakistan’s proxy leaders were not sincere with the Kashmiri struggle and that the call to boycott elections was to get more rewards from Islamabad, they totally ignored this call of boycott and participated in the elections in great numbers surprising all the analysts.
Unlike India, Pakistani control over areas of Jammu and Kashmir is more subtle, scientific and stringent. Areas known as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan do not even have those facilities and liberties which their counterparts, despite the militancy, violence and presence of a large army enjoy; yet these people are fooled in to believe that they are azad meaning free.
As a result of this false sense of being free, majority of people think they don’t need to struggle for freedom, rule of law and fundamental laws. They think because we are allowed to go to mosques, open a corner shop and kill cows in Islamic way we are free, even though our resources and government is controlled and exploited y Pakistan and their agents inside the territories under Pakistani control.
Elections are not contested on any principle or ideology. Those who have money, legal or illegal, can buy tickets of the parties and seats in the Upper House known as Kashmir Council. Recently Kashmir Council elections have been completed and some people had to pay three cror rupees (around £250,000) to buy the seat. Each Kashmir Council member gets around four cror rupees per annum; and it is up to them how they spend that – there is no accountability. It is a good business.
To get a party ticket for the Assembly of Pakistani Administered Kashmir from one of the major political parties, each applicant has to submit 135,000 rupees; and each constituency attracts many applications. All the money goes to party heads. In our unfortunate territory PPP and Muslim League N are big parties and both are non local parties – Pakistanis. Who gets ticket for which seat final decision is taken by Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, so where is the much talked democracy.
While talking to me on this subject Masoom Ansari, a leader of Kashmir National Party said: ‘Azad Kashmiri politics is now controlled by Pakistani political parties and this is very dangerous for the Kashmiri struggle and our identity. What interest does PPP, N League, MQM and Jamat e Islami could have to our problems and our struggle for independence? Pakistan already controls all aspects of our social, political and economic life, our resources are looted and we have become powerless and enslaved in our motherland.’
Masoom Ansari further said: ‘These parties are not here to help or support us in any way. They are here to colonise us. People of Azad Kashmir, before supporting them must think what these parties have done to Pakistan. If these political parties can do that to Pakistan - to their own country just imagine what they can do to a territory that is not legally part of Pakistan? We are deprived of that little control we had on our political parties and selection of candidates, now Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Altaf Hussain will decide who is going to be our member of Assembly.’
Another senior Kashmir leader of Liberation League, Choudhry Mohammed Sadiq said: ‘We have differences with Muslim League, we dislike their policies and style of government, but after all they are a local party with local interest in mind. Pakistani parties should not be allowed to take part in the elections. These are non Kashmiri parties with non Kashmiri agenda. They will advance a Pakistani agenda and that is to make this area a part of Pakistan. People should not vote for candidates of these parties to express their approval.’
I agree with the sentiments expressed by my fellow Kashmiris, but I know people will vote for them; and even if they don’t still PPP and many N League leaders will be declared winners. It is also possible that MQM will win a few seats. In a place like Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan money speaks; and elections are not won on the strength of a principle or an ideology.
In Pakistani Administered Kashmir elections are not won or lost on political or ideological basis. Money, social status, tribal strength and moreover contacts with the Pakistani establishment is the determining factor. Islamabad ensures that only those people win the elections who are easy to handle and who have no strength of character or ideology.
Some Kashmiri nationalist parties have decided to sign the declaration which prohibits them to take part in the elections. These parties have no finance to match pro Pakistan parties. They have no experience in contesting elections; and they have weak organisational structures. They don’t have strong contacts with the Azad Kashmir bureaucracy; and the Pakistani establishment don’t want them to win.
Despite all that they have decided to contest. They know they will lose, but they are determined to fight. They are determined to challenge the proxy rule and proxy politics and might of Islamabad. These leaders say winning is not everything; the elections will provide them an opportunity to meet people and tell them how Islamabad and their agents have exploited them in name of Islam and freedom struggle.
These leaders think those who inserted that clause in Act 1974, under which Azad Kashmir is administered, that demands loyalty to Pakistan before one can even become a candidate was designed to keep the Kashmiri nationalists away from the ‘democratic process’. The nationalist Kashmiri leadership without realising designs of the imperialist minds in Islamabad fell in this trap and boycotted elections since 1974. That policy ensured that nationalist leadership did not interact with ordinary people and give this message to the ordinary people that they had no interest and no role in local matters which were related to every day issues of the people.
Some Kashmiri nationalists individually contested elections in the past, and generally they were castigated for that. It was the Kashmir National Party, which after lengthy debates in the party boldly came out with a policy that we will support the democratic process on both sides of the divide; and will take part in the elections.
Some other parties also followed the KNP foot steps and declared that they would also contest elections. The result of intra - party discussions is an alliance called National Democratic Alliance which has put forward an election manifesto and fielded a number of candidates. This is a turning point in the polity of the Pakistani Administered Kashmir.
These pro independent Kashmir candidates are not in a position to defeat the social and political infrastructure put in place by Pakistan and their agencies to protect and promote their interest; but they will be in a position to dent the credibility of Pakistan and their policy on Kashmir. To me that itself is a commendable act and a step in right direction.
Writer is Head Diplomatic Committee of Kashmir National Party, political analyst and author of many books and booklets. Also he is Director Institute of Kashmir Affairs.Email:drshabirchoudhry@gmail.com

‘OUR ENTIRE FAMILY IS BEING PUNISHED FOR SUPPORTING THE RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION’: HILAL WAR

Srinagar June 06 (Only Kashmir): In a significant development in a crowded press conference held at Hotel Ahdoos Srinagar, pro self-dtermination leader who is intellectually loaded with the golden thoughts of freedom and right to self determination and the Chairman People’s Political Party(PPP) Hilal Ahmad War castigated the Indian Government for denying them right to life.Referring to the unique discrimiatory passport handed over to his brother Ajaz Ahmad War(a Journalist by profession) Hilal War stated that “Kashmir , earlier synonymous with paradise, pleasure and beauty, now connotes agony, pain, misery, torture, killings and terror. How and why did all this happen? This is in response to the demand of the people that they want to shape their political future according to their own wishes and that they are masters of their own destiny. Right from the creation of the Kashmir problem the attempts have been made to suppress this voice. Those who demonstrated their will to shape their political future by exercising the rights and powers given by United Nations were persecuted, harassed and intimidated by the Indian Government through their forces or other state apparatus wherein our family which is commonly known as ‘War Family’ had been victimised, harassed and persecuted right from 1947 figures at top . The ‘War Family’ is of the belief that freedom is the fundamental right of any Sovereign Republic and it is no sin for people of J & K to ask for this minimum demand to shape their political future with honour and dignity, at par with all civilized nationalities of the world.”

Mr. War further stated “On the directions of Hon’able High Court, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a passport to my brother, Ajaz Ahmad War (a journalist by profession) on June 04, 2011 from the regional passport Office, Srinagar, Kashmir. The passport has been issued with a validity of just one year wherein it is enunciated on the passport that Ajaz Ahmad War can travel to all the countries except Pakistan. This is in violation of Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and Constitution of India also .This is also in violation to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This unconstitutional and anarchious action of Government of India has vindicated our stand that India is an occupying power. This unconstitutional action of Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given legitimacy to the disputed nature of Kashmir and has recognized it by writing on the passport of Ajaz Ahmad War that he cannot travel to Pakistan. This travel document issued to Mr.Ajaz Ahmad War is a legitimate weapon to be used at the international fora as evidence that India has virtually accepted Kashmir as a ‘Dispute’. This travel document has strengthened our argument that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are de-facto citizens of India not de-jure.”
“This unjustified action is to counter China’s staple visa wherein India has now started issuing Passports to Kashmiris not valid for Pakistan trip. This unconstitutional action has justified the action of China by issuing staple Visa’s to Kashmiris”, said Mr.War.
Mr.War in a his style said that the Indian government readily issues passports to pro-freedom leaders like Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik , Moulana abbass Ansari, Professor Abdul Ghani, Nayeem Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Saleem Geelani, Syed sallu-Din’s son, Syed Ali shah Geelani’s son,Farida Behanji’s son and others but none of them was barred to visit Pakistan.

PPP Chief, while narrating the atrocities committed by the Indian establishment, said, “It is not for the first time that our family has been harassed and deprived of basic rights by the State authorities but this process of persecution, harassment and intimidation has continued right from the October 1947. One example of the persecution and harassment is that the entire War Family has been bared to enter any Government Department right from October 1947. This is in violation of ‘Right to Life’. The State authorities has deprived my family from the basic rights .This denial of right to life is a clear violation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights wherein India is the signatory. My younger sister was expelled from the job and was denied passport only because I am her brother. The CIK mentioned in its report that her two brothers Hilal Ahmad War and Jameel Ahmad War are close associates of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Syed Sallahuddin. If Government of India feels that ‘War Family’ is a threat to safety and security of India, then she must detain our whole family including our children and infants and lodge them in some prison so that at least my family would be given food to live in. Why should Government of India punish Peter for the sins of Paul? Otherwise, my family would be left with no option but to seek a political asylum in some other country where China and Iran would be our first choice. The War family has its own history and credit should go to this family for imbibing the concept and philosophy of ‘Right to Self-determination and freedom of expression’ in the historical area of Maisuma and Civil Lines area of Srinagar which is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir”.

PPP Chief said,“this is an eye opener for the Civil Society of India and Pakistan, organizers of “Aman Ki Aasha” (Hope for Peace) and International Human Rights Organizations as well as prominent Human Rights activists of International repute , Mr. Gautam Navlakha, Arundhati Roy, Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani, Angana Chatterji etc. to take a strong note of this harassment and persecution by the Indian State authorities and take up this case at International fors and with New-Delhi Govt”.

He said that Freedom of movement or the right to travel is a human rights concept that the constitutions of all member states of United Nations respect. Scholars have attempted to base a universal "right to move" on several philosophical grounds, including the idea of a common ownership of the earth, a natural right of movement existing prior to the advent of nation States,After World War II, the United Nations was established. The new international organization recognized the importance of freedom of movement through documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966). Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the U.N. General Assembly, reads,(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each State.(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.Article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights incorporates this right into treaty law:(1) Everyone lawfully within the territory of a State shall, within that territory, have the right to liberty of movement and freedom to choose his residence.(2) Everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own.(3) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of the right to enter his own country.
Mr.Hilal Ahmad War, reiterated his party stand that the soul of J&K political freedom struggle is Right to Self-determination, which is neither negotiable nor can be compromised. NO SEPARATISTS IN KASHMIR BUT FREEDOM LOVERS

By: Tahir Muzter

The three- member interlocutors team headed by journalist Dilip Padgaonkar was appointed by the centre in October last year. The appointment was consequent upon unparalleled uprising in Kashmir in 2010 which we remember as a year of killings. The two other members of team being academician Rdha Kumar and and former Central Information Commissioner M.M. Ansari In view of never ending Kashmir dispute together with the repeated unrest, turmoil and bloodshed in Kashmir in the name of Kashmir dispute appointment of the interlocutors , their assignment and their role is well understandable.
The centre also was not hesitant in making this aspect public that the team will find out a political solution to Kashmir problem, after having deliberations with political parties and groups, civil society non political unions and associations, cross section and so on. The team was given one year for submission o their report.
One very important thing to understand is the background of appointment of a team of interlocutors. What compelled Government of India to appoint three member team of interlocutors, for the first time in the 63 years of old Kashmir dispute. Basically it is not good governance, it is not election, it is not corruption free JK, it is not total economic dependence of Kashmir, it is not discrimination with the Muslims of J&K in the central offices and institutions, though according to the reports, these issues have come under discussion with the people and delegations whom the team met so far. But for these and for similar issues there have been many committees and their recommendations in the past. The team was appointed for much more important issue, as mentioned above.
New dimension of Kashmir dispute
Political solution to the Kashmir problem is not a must because this is an old dispute, and lakhs of people in Kashmir, are ready to do or die for its solution, and are off and on roads crying for its solution. There is another dimension, which is not generally discussed but requires an immediate attention. Even the people who are in favor of accession with India, want to live in Kashmir free from dispute, which is full of different sorts of trouble for them ,making their life a hell at different times. We must confess that these people are not only in Jammu and Ladakh, but lakhs in Kashmir too. They cannot be labeled as “separatist”. As such the dispute or its solution is not restricted to the valley of Kashmir only. Kashmir dispute is hanging in air for the past 63 years. Even weak Pakistan continues to play it even through terrorists, which time has proved.
Not Pakistan only, Kashmir dispute is practically Kashmir politics, practiced and played in Kashmir for the last six decades. World knows them as Hurriyatists Liberationists and whom India call SEPRATISTS”------the crux of the matter.
The big question is, can the interlocutors be successful in finding a political settlement of Kashmir without the deliberations with the people who are wrongly labeled “separatists”, but matter seriously in the solution of Kashmir There can be difference with Hurriyatists and Liberationists on their approach and actions and even on their ideology, but none can deny the fact that they represent the lakhs of people who come out on streets day a after day, facing bullets in the name of Kashmir dispute
To find out a political solution to the Kashmir problem is not as easy as Government of India has conceived it or the team is thinking now. It was a gigantic assignment which is expected to end with an equally gigantic disappointment. One can understand it well, in the light of latest statements issued by the interlocutors team. According to the team the interim report shall be released within three week. But till today they have not been able to have deliberations with Hurriyat and Libration leaders, who matter much in Kashmir politics. As stated by the team, discussions on political settlement of Kashmir dispute have been held with many mainstream leaders. But it is an open secret that in Kashmir mainstream leader, who have been rulers of Kashmir are treated as the agents of New Delhi, in Kashmir. They are working at the behest of central Government confirmed by the former Governor of Kashmir B K Nehru in his book years back. Even now Sawami Angnishvesh has said recently, that people sitting in new Delhi are actually running the show in Jammu Kashmir (GK17May). In the true picture of Kashmir politics right form Late Bakhshi Gulam Muhammad Omar Abduulah worked as the agents of New Delhi. Discussions with them on Kashmir matters almost nothing. It is not enough to describe Kashmir as Political issue, as Omar Abdullah generally utters. Right from 1953 to this date they all have been responsible for erosion of Kashmir’s special status which made relations of Kashmir from bad to worse with every erosion.
Meeting Sumo drivers, chowkidars , Saffron growers some representatives of some dozens unions and associations and societies. who according to the reports pleaded their professional problems, with the team in the name of Kashmir dispute is nothing but a mockery. Likewise talks with some selected members of civil society without general call to the civil society is nothing but contempt of the Kashmir civil society. These are the indications of gigantic disappointment of the gigantic assignment to the interlocutors team.
According to the statement of the interlocutors team, ( based on their study) Kashmir issue is being called as “issue” by one group and some call it “non issue and some put a not of introduction on it (GK, 18 May ) And if it is the reading of the team members, where is the representation of the people who call it “issue”---- and the people who according to the team put a not of introduction, are not they nearer to the people who call it as an “issue. Here arises the important question of deliberations with the people who are labeled as “separatists. No talks and deliberations on Kashmir can give you any dividend without sharing with these people whatever the result. It is the processes. If their point of view, is not supported by political background or is not logical. If it is really humbug, reject it and make it public.
Time has come that Hurriyatatis and Librationalists should reject the title of “Separatists”, out rightly, which they were supposed to do in the beginning, when it was floated by India, to wreck the Kashmir cause. But it required great political consciences and that too pro-Kashmir, and not with any sort of bent. This has proved a big hurdle in the solution of Kashmir issue, but helped only Pakistan in the long run. And the fact is that secession, even in the most beautiful language, cannot be acceptable to any sovereign country in the world, and India cannot be an exception. If interlocutors are ready to call them as librationists, there should be no hesitation in having deliberations, with whatever the result.
There is enough to prove that none in Kashmir is a separatist. There has been never any agitation in Kashmir demanding merger of Kashmir with Pakistan. There has been never any slogan for joining Pakistan part of Kashmir. Kashmir never discussed the fate of Gilgit-Baltistan---a part of Kashmir.
Hurriyats and Jammu Kashmir Libration front ask only for fulfilling the promises and commandments of India made with people of Kashmir---This can never be called “Separatism” No court in the world can blame the people of Kashmir or Hurriyats or Libration leaders for spreading “separatism”. It is India’s historical and political commitment that the people of Kashmir can go to the extent of asking India to walk and “Quit Kashmir. It is India’s -first Prime Minister’s statement, who was also the architect of Kashmir’s accession with India. He is recorded to have said:-
Kashmir is not the property of either India or Pakistan. It belongs to the Kashmiri people. When Kashir accessed to India. We made it clear to the leader of the Kashmir people that we sold ultimately abide by the verdict of their plebiscite. If they tell us walk out, I have no hesitation in quitting Kashmir-----( Indian Prime Minister’s statement as reported By the Amrat Bazar Patrica, Culcutta. January 2. 1950.) It is one among many such statements. Here this write-up of mine cannot afford to give one hundred and one such statements on the part of India.----------But one thing to add here about the wrong label….. “Separatism”.
If India is really interest in solving Kashmir problem, and if the mandate given to the Interoculars was based on really good –will, then there should be no objection to India and its interlocutors’ to change the “separatists” title into the Kashmir freedom Lovers, which they can be called in the light of the hundreds of the statements on the part of India.-----Change of opinion about so called “Separatists” is logical in the light of historical background, and obvious for finding a solution to the issue. In case the “separatists” continue to like call themselves as “ separatists, situation will remain always as it is today.

GOVERNMENT DELIBERATELY PROMOTING IMMORALITY & SOCIAL EVILS IN KASHMIR: GEELANI

Srinagar May 30 (Only Kashmir): Strongly denouncing the eve-teasing of a girl allegedly by some CRPF troopers at Kashmir Haat last evening, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Monday accused the government of deliberately promoting “immorality and other social evils in Valley.”“After Botanical garden and Tulip garden, the government is now using the Exhibition grounds (Kashmir Haat) for the same purpose. New Delhi wants to uproot our moral values and traditions by plunging our youth into a morass of drugs, liquor and other evils. All this is being done to weaken our younger generation’s resolve towards freedom,” Geelani said during his address to a public gathering at Lagipora, Sopore, where he had gone to express his condolences with the families of Sameer Ahmad Lone and Farhat Maqsood, killed during last year’s summer unrest in government forces action.Geelani said the freedom struggle was not for “a change of ruling hands but for replacing injustice with justice, and creating a society on the basis morality and equality.”“It must also be made clear that there is no place for religious antagonism in Islam and all non-Muslims are our brothers on humanitarian basis. They (non-Muslims) should harbor no fears of violence or anything else from the majority Muslim community of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. The Hurriyat(G) chairman said there was no justification for “India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir and India and its stooges are doing Kashmiris no favour by carrying out developmental works in Kashmir , because the money spent on these projects is a small amount of our own resources.”“The lion’s share of the electricity produced from our water resources benefits India’s northern region while the Valley reels under darkness. According to recent figures, the Indian Army is occupying 65 lakh kanals of land of Kashmiris for which no compensation is being paid. Worse, the Army is looting Kashmir’s forests with impunity,” he said.“While ordinary people are booked under the PSA for gathering firewood from forests, the government has closed its eyes on the numerous joineries operating in army camps across Kashmir, from where officers and soldiers smuggle furniture outside the state,” he saidEarlier, Geelani paid a visit to late Haji Abdul Gani Lone‘s residence in Bomai Sopore and expressed his condolences with the bereaved family.

OMAR ASKS SEPARATISTS: WHERE ARE YOU DURING WINTER?

Jammu, May 27 (Only Kashmir) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday questioned the motive of Kashmiri separatists in getting restive more during summers.
Ahead of radical Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's participation in Friday prayers at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar, Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter: 'What is it about out Hurriyat friends (and their) need to create trouble on Fridays only in summer. Where were they all through winter????'
He was pointing out to the sudden flurry of activity by the separatist Hurriyat Conference leaders during summer while they were either in New Delhi or travelling abroad during winter.
In a retweet to one of his followers, Omar said the separatist leaders 'want to see a death'.
But his comments about the Hurriyat Conference provoked some to react sarcastically.
One of them, Shahid Bhat, posted on the Twitter: 'At least they are visible through the summers. The government is nowhere to be seen, be it winter or summer.'
To this, Omar retweeted: 'Well, if you roam around with your eyes tightly squeezed, you won't see anything, will you?'

KOTBULWAL IS ABU GHRAIB OF KASHMIR ADMITS HILAL WAR

Srinagar: May 26, (Only Kashmir): Peoples Polituical Party (PPP), Chairman, Hilal Ahmad War, has denouncing the continued inhuman torture to the Freedom Fighters of Kashmir and political prisoners detained in Kotbulwal Jail at the hands of Jail Superintendent, Rajni Sehgal on daily basis. The revealation made by Muslim League activists, Javaid Ahmad Najar before the Session Court on May 23rd, 2011 has exposed the Indiand authorities and is the eye opener for the International Human Rights Organizations and ICRC in particular. Mr. Javaid Ahmad Najar has opened his shirt and showed the marks of torture before the Court and narrated that detainees are not only being subjected to mental and physical torture but also undressed by Jail superintendent, Rajni Sehgal. The Kotbulwal Jail has been converted Kashmiri’s Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.
Mr.War appealed the International Human Rights Organizations (Amnesty International, Asia watch, Human Rights Watch etc.) and U.N. Secretary General to take the serious notice of case and take up the issue in International Foras and also with New Delhi against gross Human Rights violations at the hands of Indian authorities either through its occupational forces stationed in Jammu and Kashmir or through Police and Jail authorities.
PPP Chief urged World Community to raise these issues with the Indian government, and in particular to express concern about the lack of accountability for human rights violations, which often results in an unending cycle of violence and retribution.
In Jammu and Kashmir the armed forces have committed torture, enforced disappearances, and targeted killings disguised as shoot-outs. These abuses are facilitated by Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which gives the army widespread powers to search, arrest, and use lethal force, while assuring immunity from prosecution.
Mr.War, said the Government of India has forgotten that in times of war, certain humainitarian rules must be observed, even with regard to the enemy. These rules are set out maily in the four Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949 and their Additional Protocols of June 08, 1977.
