MIRWAIZ SEEKS OBAMA'S INFLUENCE TO RESOLVE KASHMIR

Srinagar Oct 20 (Only Kashmir): Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday said the amalgam will send American President, Barack Obama a memorandum during his November visit to India, urging him to use his influence to press India for resolving the Kashmir ‘dispute’ through dialogue.
Addressing party workers here at the Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal, the Hurriyat chairman reminded the American president that Kashmir had been on his agenda during his Presidential campaign. “Back then, he had promised that he will take measures for a resolution of the dispute as soon as he is in power. Even other responsible American leaders have time and again reiterated that a resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people was imperative for peace and stability in south Asia,” Mirwaiz said.
He said the Hurriyat Conference will publish the memorandum in local news publications besides keeping copies available at party headquarters and district headquarters so that people may send them through internet and other mediums to the American embassy in New Delhi.
“ The memorandum will urge the American president to pressurize India to resolve the dispute through dialogue with Kashmiris and Pakistan so that the killings of innocent civilians, oppression and other human rights violations in Kashmir come to an end,” Mirwaiz said.
Meanwhile, reiterating his call for UNO march on October 27, Mirwaiz asked people to join Hurriyat leaders in all districts in the march while as he said he will lead a similar march from the Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal on the day. “ October 27 is a black day in the history of Kashmir for Indian troops landed in Kashmir and began their forceful occupation of Kashmir which continued to this day. Therefore, a memorandum will be presented to the UN office at Sonawar to remind the international body of the resolutions passed by it in favour of the right to self determination for Kashmiris. The memo will also urge the UN to play its role in stopping India’s violations of Kashmir people’s human rights,” he said.
