MIRWAIZ UNDER HOUSE ARREST, GOVERNMENT TRYING TO FOIL UN MARCH

Srinagar, Oct 26 (Only Kashmir): The Hurriyat Conference (M) today accused the government is trying to foil its UN office chalo march on Wednesday by arresting several of its activists and putting the senior leaders including its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest.
A Hurriyat spokesman while speaking to Only Kashmir said the police placed Mirwaiz under house arrest since yesterday evening, its senior leader Bilal Gani Lone has been confined to his house from today morning.
A posse of police also went to the houses of Hurriyat leaders Shahid-ul-Islam and Sofi Mushtaq at Sanatnagar and Mahraj Gunj respectively, however both were not present there.
The spokesman said the police have arrested several of its leaders and activists including Prof Habibullah Jeelani, Musadiq Adil, Hakeem Abdul Rashid and Peer Ghulam Nabi.
The spokesman strongly condemned the crackdown on the conglomerate terming it as government’s frustration. “This is an act of sheer political vengeance. We urge the people to march along with the Hurriyat leaders from the respective districts to the UN office here,” he said.
